Optical fibre factors that limit thetransmission capaity of optical lines
Rouča, Tomáš ; Tejkal, Vladimír (referee) ; Reichert, Pavel (advisor)
Bachelor´s thesis more closely specifies effects of attenuation and dispersion of optical fibers in connection with influencing transmitted signal bandwidth and data transfer capacity. It also examines the influences acting on the optical signal passes through an optical fiber and the mechanism that lead to the attenuation or complete suppression of the signal. The first chapter describes in detail the transmission environment in terms of optical fiber attenuation characteristics of the signal loss caused by rough handling of the optical fiber, manufacturing and material specifications, resulting in scattering or absorption of the transmitted signal. Also, whether the description of fiber dispersion, resulting in the shrinking spectrum of transmitted signal and thus the amount of data at a certain point in time transfer to a defined distance. The second chapter analyzes the effects of attenuation and dispersion in fiber optic transmission capacity currently used in presently optic cables, mechanical couplings, connectors and active components. By mentioning a few examples of real transmission lines with regard to the spectral transmission characteristics that these systems require. This study also includes protocols used to transfer information using xWDM systems. The third chapter deals with modern methods to establish a number of optical signals into a single transmission fiber. Particular attention is devoted to describing the principle of association of the channels in the optical frequencies xWDM, since this method does not currently have a standard solution of information transmission optical fiber for its use significantly more bandwidth, longer distances while maintaining vaulted speed transmission and the possibility of flexible extension without laying new cables and reduce the cost of building transmission lines. The last chapter focuses on describing the implementation of a mathematical model to the spectral characteristics of optical fibers.
Spectral characteristics in fiber optics
Chleboun, Jiří ; Tejkal, Vladimír (referee) ; Šporik, Jan (advisor)
This bachelor’s thesis is focused on the influence of attenuation and dispersion glass and plastic optical fibers in optical transmission system. Theory of optical transmission is discussed in the theoretical part, it is defined term like spectral attenution characteristic and its division into transmission bands. Sources and detectors are itemized further, which are used for optical transmissions in fiber optics. The thesis describes the most occured effects, which influenced transmission parameters of optical fiber, like optical attenution, dispersion and aspectual polarization dispersion. Theory of plastic optical fibers is processed at the end of theoretical part of thesis. It is also processed advantages, disadvantages and useage of plastic optical fibers and they are consequently compare with glass fibers. Comparison is focused mainly on attenuation, transmission properties and useage on these types of fibers in telecommunication. Representation of spectral attenution characteristics in programme MATLAB is practical output of the bachelor´s thesis. Created programme approximates points which are got from measure optical attenuation by the Lagrange interpolation polynomial.
DWDM in access networks
Šifta, Radim ; Křepelka, Václav (referee) ; Filka, Miloslav (advisor)
The aim of this master´s thesis is an explanation of the problem of optical access networks with wavelength division multiplex, main purpose is to demonstrate the difference between simulation and real measurement. The thesis is divided into several basic thematic areas. At the beginning of thesis is outlined the basic division of multiplexing system, there are discussed the basic solutions of wavelength multiplexes and their possible combinations. The next chapter deals with the active elements, which are an essential part of xWDM systems such as optical lasers, detectors and amplifiers. The following chapter is focused on the passive elements, especially on the passive filters, which form a key part of the wavelength multiplex. Methods of measurement C/DWDM networks are discussed in the next part of thesis. The next chapter describes the topology used by active and passive optical networks. Penultimate part of this thesis consists of designs simulated models PON and WDM-PON networks and comparing their transmission parameters. The final part presents the results of practical measurements of experimental optical access network with wavelength division multiplex, the results are simultaneously compared with results of simulations.
Model of optical network for high-speed data transfer
Filip, Tomáš ; Šporik, Jan (referee) ; Tejkal, Vladimír (advisor)
The main goal of this diploma thesis is to design of high-speed optical network. The first part deals with theoretical knowledge in the field of optical transmissions, especially principle of wavelength division multiplexing. Generally speaking, this part is dedicated to optical connections over long distances. It will concentrate on different types of wavelength division multiplexing, optical fiber amplifiers and other basic optical components. Then it discusses influence of negative effects acting on optical transmission and discusses how to reduce or suppress their influence. Subsequently, there is designed backbone network in the Czech Republic in OptiSystem 7.0 software and are verified some mentioned theoretical knowledge. One of chapters also presents results of measurements of real optical routes in our state. The second part of the diploma thesis moves its attention on that part of optical network, which provides data connectivity to end users, that means it is focused on optical access network. There are described the most common topologies, standards and components. Based on these findings, in the last chapter, there is worked out design of optical access network FTTH (more precisely FTTD) in the selected location. Afterwards, the design is transferred to the OptiSystem 7.0 software, where is verified its functionality.
Application of the new technologies in optical access networks
Ryšavý, Jan ; Münster, Petr (referee) ; Šifta, Radim (advisor)
The aim of the thesis is get theoretical knowledge of the latest components used in optical access networks and subsequently get knowledge practical experience in design and simulation of these networks. The thesis is divided in two different parts. In the first part of this work are given theoretical knowledge AWG multiplexers and other modern elements used in optical access networks. The second part deals with the design and simulation of optical access networks using wavelength and time division.
Model of the metropolitan optical network
Prudík, Jiří ; Hudcová, Lucie (referee) ; Křivák, Petr (advisor)
The purpose of this master’s thesis is foremost to provide a simple guide how to build elements of optical metropolitan area network. The basic model consists to sequence of construction, network topology, passive and active parts. The collection contains examples of alternative technology such as Wireless LAN with different frequency. The optical network construction based on optical cable, fibres, splices, trays, adapters, connectors and active parts for example a lot of media convertor models. After that there are demonstrating type of wavelength division multiplexer used in metropolitan area network – passive planar PCL splitter. One of the passive planar splitter are used to increase optical fibre channel. At the end of the collection a simplified examples of used measurements – optical time domain reflectometry and optical fibre transmission. Contains standard protocols or reflectogram. The conclusion of this thesis summarizes costs of FTTb (Fibre To The Building) model of optical metropolitan area network in Czech republic and future contribution for society.
Simultaneous bidirectional transfer of data and power supply over one fiber
Baura, Tomáš ; Šedivá, Soňa (referee) ; Havránek, Zdeněk (advisor)
This Bachelor’s Thesis deals with projecting and implementation of transmission systems using a single optical fibre for parallel bidirectional transmission of optical power and data signal. These systems include Polarization Division Multiplexing (PMD), Wave Division Multiplexing (WDM) and Time Division Multiplexing (TDM). The theoretical part of the thesis closely describes and specifies optical fibre, optical radiation sources and detectors as well as passive optical components suitable for transmission system implementation. Further, the thesis describes principles of individual transmission systems including a selection of particular optical and optoelectronic parts for the TDM and WDM transmission composition. Each chapter of the practical part of this document describes methods and processes used for individual measurements. First the individual parameters of individual optoelectronic and optical components of transmission systems are verified and characterized. This is followed by measuring the parameters of the composed TDM and WDM transmission systems such as optical loss, transmitted electric power efficiency, transfer speed etc. Finally, the possibility of outer optical signal detection on an integrated photodiode PIN of the laser diode is tested and verified, which could be used for both transmission and reception of data signal.
